Great entry level bike for my wife. Great price from Amazon. However, please note this bike requires assembly and I had my local bike store do it for $80.

Diamondback Response Mountain Bike (26-Inch Wheels) Review

Diamondback Response Mountain Bike (26-Inch Wheels)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I'm back to bicycling after almost 20 years. While going to college in the late 70's I worked in a Schwinn dealership. I bought the first mountain bike Schwinn offered, the High Sierra and A Superior 10 speed road bike. I put thousands of miles on these bikes. Index shifting was not available yet. At 62 I decided I needed to get healthy. I researched bikes and settled on the Diamondback Response Mountain Bike. I am very pleased. The Amazon sizing chart enabled me to get the perfect fit for my 5' 7", a small 16" frame. My only experience with index shifting was a used 1993 Cannondale Delta V700 mountain bike. The Diamondback Response shifts beautifully. The overall performance and quality of this bike is very good. In 3 weeks I have rode 77 miles in 7 hours and 47 minutes (a Topline Bike Computer BC 906 also purchased from Amazon) and I'm healthier already. I'm too old for gonzo but I love the Redding, CA River Trail System and this bike is perfect for this. I highly recommend this Diamondback Response and buying from Amazon.

Diamondback Wildwood Citi Men's Comfort Bike (2011 Model, 26-Inch Wheels) Review

Diamondback Wildwood Citi Men's Comfort Bike (2011 Model, 26-Inch Wheels)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Bought this bike to start exercising again and get back in shape. Gained alot of weight due to an injury. Needed a bike that was comfortable and could support me. Been riding about 3 miles per day, 4 days per week, for about 6 months now and no problems at all. Bike is very comfortable. When you buy this bike, I had the option of the curved back handle bars or the straight ones. Bought the curved ones thinking they would be more comfortable, but had an awkward angle on my wrists. The straight bars are more comfortable.

Why spend more than necessary when you can enjoy an extremely comfortable and reliable ride for a fraction of the price? Enter the Diamondback Wildwood Citi men's comfort bike, which includes such premium features as Shimano components, aluminum rims, Promax linear pull brakes, and an affordable price tag. If simplicity and value matter to you, look no further than the Wildwood Citi.
The bike is structured around a Hi-Ten Remington Steel frame with Laid Back Comfort (LBC) Geometry and a 45mm suspension fork. The frame and fork combine to create a comfortable, maneuverable ride that's ideal for both beach towns and short neighborhood commutes. The SunRace seven-speed twist shifters and Shimano Mega Range freewheel, meanwhile, create a smooth shifting and coasting experience. And riders will love the dual-density comfort saddle, which is far more accommodating than traditional road bike saddles.
About Diamondback's LBC Geometry During the development of LBC Geometry, Diamondback engineers were faced with the challenge of making the comfort bike more comfortable and easier to use without compromising its handling and maneuverability. They started by tilting the seat tube back. Way back. This allows the rider to be seated further behind the bottom bracket and in a lower position, which not only makes for a more stable and comfortable ride, but also allows for full leg extension to the pedals. At the same time, the design still keeps the rider seated low enough on the bike that he or she can quickly and easily plant both feet firmly on the ground. The result is happier knees and much easier mounting and dismounting.

Once the rider's ideal position was determined, the engineers recognized two places they could improve the handling of the bike by not changing anything at all. Whereas other companies have been tempted to lengthen the chainstays and tilt the head tube back, Diamondback engineers opted for another approach, leaving the length of the rear end alone to maintain superior shifting performance and stable handling. Then they designed a new comfort handlebar with more back sweep, helping bring the handle grips within reach. Because the angle and location of the head tube remains unchanged, Diamondback didn't compromise the performance of the bike.

Diamondback Serene Citi Classic Women's Sport Comfort Bike (2011 Model, 26-Inch Wheels) Review

Diamondback Serene Citi Classic Women's Sport Comfort Bike (2011 Model, 26-Inch Wheels)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
THE PROS:
* Beautiful design. The color is gorgeous in person. The light blue is overlaid with some pink decals of circles and whatnot that don't show too well in the sample photographs, but the overall design is stunning.
* Smooth ride. Thank you, suspension! I've taken this bike out on smooth road, cracked road, grass, dirt trail, pebble trail, and small-rock trail, and it has done decently.
* Solid brakes and tires.
* Lifetime warranty on the frame.
* Bicycling is so easy it almost feels like cheating! My first day out on the bike, I rode it for one hour, no problem. The 10-minute drive to the office only took me 16 minutes on the bike. Excellent!
THE CONS:
* My seat is cruddy and/or defective; it squeaks.
* Gear shifting is generally smooth, but there are a few settings where the chain/bike is unduly noisy. Perhaps I'm doing it wrong.
* Construction CAN be confusing out of the box. I recommend that those who haven't a clue what they are doing check out Diamondback's useful videos on bike assembly [...]. The bike comes with frame, chain, brakes, and back wheel assembled. One needs to put on the handlebars, put on the front tire, hook up the brakes (front and back), tweak the brakes, and put on the pedals.
* No kick stand, but I understand this is relatively common in shipped bicycles. It's very easy to buy and install one.
* Amazon for some reason lists the shipping weight as 25lb. Though I knew that figure was too good to be true, the actual shipping weight was somewhere around 60lb. Eyeboggle. The bike isn't light, but it's not so heavy that I can't haul it back up two flights of stairs after a long ride.
PARTING TIP:
* If you notice that your feet/pedals keep whacking the front wheel and/or the front wheel is unduly difficult to manage and turns at the slightest motion, you most likely have the front fork backwards. To save space, the front fork is backwards out-of-the-box.

Diamondback Trace Comp Dual Sport Bike (2011 Model, 700c Wheels) Review

Diamondback Trace Comp Dual Sport Bike (2011 Model, 700c Wheels)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I used to ride bmx and mt bikes in the 80s and 90s, took a long break and now in my 40's, wanted to get back into bicycling again. Didn't want a roadbike because on occasions, I still would rather jump curbs or ride over obstacles rather than around it. I like the hardcore high tech mountain bikes available these days but not committed to spend that much money and wanted something that's good on the road as well. Looked at hybrids and wasn't too impressed with the inexpensive ones and couldn't justify spending too much with the well known popular brands.
Then comes Diamondback's "Dual Sport" Trace which fits everything I need plus the latest suspension fork, and disc brakes at a reasonable price, that can be ridden on the streets but can go on light trails. Tough enough for urban streets with potholes, curbs, stairs, and still manageable on hardpack or paved trails.
Now the suspension fork isn't the latest state of the art product but it makes the ride very smooth and comfortable. Mine doesn't have the "lock out" but Im fine setting the "preload" to max which I weigh 190lbs and handles the stairs, curbs , when I want to take shortcuts on my path. On extreme downhills, it can have a bit of a pogo effect but on moderate ones, it still offer control and confidence.
This is the first time Ive had disc brakes on a bicycle and LOVE IT that it's hard for me to think of going back to traditional types. It's so easy to modulate the brakes right from the start where the other kinds, I had to customize the settings.
The frame and components are a bit on the heavy side, but it's just fine for my type of recreational, leisure paced, but on occasion want to be "young and daring". Besides, I can easily upgrade the parts in the future as needed but as a re-entry bike, this is just fine.
Otherwise, I can't stop riding the DB Trace and find excuses just to go for a quick ride.
The DB Trace makes riding a bicycle easy and fun again.

The Diamondback Trace Comp doesn't make the roads and trails easier, but it does help make your ride so. Start with a butted aluminum dual sport frame and throw in double wall 700c wheels, and a Shimano Alivio 8-speed drive train and rapid fire shifters. Take that and add in Hayes HMX-4 mechanical disc brakes to make stopping a piece of cake. And the piece de resistance - a SR Suntour NVX-MLO fork with 75 mm of travel and a mechanical lock out. Try a Diamondback Trace Comp and see where your legs can take you.

As already mentioned, the specs listed are not correct. Correct are listed below:The bike that comes is still a great bike. The SR-suntour XCR for has a remote lockout which works great. While rockshox are more well known, the fork has handled anything I've thrown at it. The only dissapointment in the bike so far is the wheels are a little less than 'great'. Stock wheels tend to be crap most the time, but these gave out on my first real trail ride. Taco'd with little to no force. Otherwise, its a great spec'd bike for the cost. The hydarulic brakes work adequatly and the shifting is nice and smooth. Overall a great bike for anyone new to the sport.Frame & Fork

Diamondback Insight 1 Performance Hybrid Bike (2011 Model, 700c Wheels) Review

Diamondback Insight 1 Performance Hybrid Bike (2011 Model, 700c Wheels)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The bike is an amazing value, to get an aluminum frame AND fork, there are heavier steel bikes here for twice as much. The geometry is a good balance for comfort and yet the bike is stiff enough for aggressive riding. The componentry works fine if adjusted properly.
Other reviewers (cough) who complain about flat tires need to realize that keeping your tires inflated will avoid most wheel problems. The tires are high-pressure and need to be maintained. This is true for most bikes. The wheels will withstand the usual curb-jumping but they're not for downhill racing.
Again, keep your tires inflated. I can't stress this enough. By doing this, you are lowering the rolling resistance and you will ride faster. Under-inflated tires invite pinch-flats (which is exactly what the other reviewer was experiencing) and debris.
It's sad that most negative bike reviews are usually due to user error.

Diamondback Jr Viper BMX Bike (20-Inch Wheels) Review

Diamondback Jr Viper BMX Bike (20-Inch Wheels)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I purchased this bicycle for my son's 8th birthday. He has been off trainers for a while and is ready for handle brakes. I like that the bike has both a handle brake and a pedal brake. This is perfect for this learning transition. Shorter riders will quickly realize that grabbing the handle brake can help in steadying the bike while mounting.
I am very impressed with the quality of parts. Aluminum rims, easily adjustable gooseneck, long seat post for maximum adjustability, these features can be very helpful in extending the life of the bike.
The size of the bike frame and riding position fit my son perfectly. For your consideration I will say the frame minimum standing clearance is 20 inches. I do not recommend this bike for a child whose inseam is less than 21 inches. My son measures 21 inch inseam and is very comfortable riding.
The package arrived with a full set of allen wrenches and a open ended wrench. All tools necessary for initial assembly are in the box. If you buy, be sure to check all bolts before riding. The factory does not always get every one tight.

Diamondback Outlook Mountain Bike (2011 Model, 26-Inch Wheels) Review

Diamondback Outlook Mountain Bike (2011 Model, 26-Inch Wheels)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Please be advised that the bike you're buying online is not assembled. Several local bicycle stores in my area had it in stock for $229 fully assembled and ready to ride.
The 2010 model is a world different from previous years, don't be confused when reading online reviews.
The bad:
- imprecise shifting mechanism
- terrible front suspension
- too weak for rugged mountain trails
The Good:
- aluminum and simple, very light
- fully serviceable, upgradeable and repairable, unlike bikes from WalMart and similar stores
- best entry level mixed terrain bike for the money
In my opinion, this is a very good city/commuter bike that can handle potholes, mud and snow, thus making it great for city riding. Don't try jumping over logs and boulders and it will serve you well for quite some time. There are very few aluminum bikes in that price range, and this one seem to be the best, so I bought one. Great for someone just learning or not willing to make a $500 commitment, which is an average price for a real rugged MTB. The front shock is so weak that it's completely pointless, and is likely to fail sooner than later. Keep it clean and lubricated to prolong it's service. If you're riding in the city, consider upgrading to a softer tire, as the original is very hard and noisy.
Good luck and ride safe!

Got it this weekend and started riding it as soon as I could. I had to adjust a few things to my liking but that was just personal prefence. Havent been able to take it on some serious rides yet but will do soon. I was able to do some small jumps and ruff terrain, over all it rides well and is very sturdy. This is my first semi expensive bike, and believe me it is extremely different than the Wolly world brands I was used to. For now I would say well worth the money.
Packaging was very nice and very fast delivery.

What is a Recoil? The dictionary defines recoil as "to spring or come back; react." The Diamondback Recoil takes that definition to heart.Whether it is flying down the wide open trail or making its way through twisty single track, the Recoil will react to what is under its tires and then spring back and be ready to take on what comes next. With an aluminum 4" travel frame, Tuff Shock Coil rear shock, SR Suntour XCT fork and 24 gears to choose from this bike will not cower in fear.Instead it will spring into action and give you a great ride.

Diamondback Viper Bmx Bike Review

Diamondback Viper Bmx Bike

I am six foot and over 30, but I wanted a small light bike that zips around. This has been perfect for me on the street. I don't go to the tracks or anything crazy. It's just a fun bike to ride. This of course was the most economical decision for me but I love this bike. It's still a little small for a guy my size, but I know what I was getting into. The front tire is fat and the back smaller, I'm sure that's some BMX thing but I thought it kind of odd.

Diamondback Response Sport Mountain Bike (2011 Model, 26-Inch Wheels) Review

Diamondback Response Sport Mountain Bike (2011 Model, 26-Inch Wheels)
Average Reviews:

The Diamondback Response Sport is a very good value in a hardtail mountain bike as you are getting a relatively high end frame design with mid range components. The modified top tube design is a strengthen design borrowed from higher end Diamondback models and similar to some Specialized bikes.
The only catch is that the shift levers and front caliper are not up to the same quality as the rest of the package. The platform pedals are OK for around town and park trails, but you may want to upgrade them for serious single track riding.
I combined this with a top quality suspension seatpost which I find to be the optimum combination of lighter weight and control with some softening of the roughest bumps. The Diamondback site and some retailers have a more complete description of which frame size is most appropriate for your height. The advantage of buying from Amazon is that you can readily get XS, S or XL frame sizes rather than having to settle for Medium or Large at a local shop or sporting goods box store.
The bike arrives mostly assembled, but plan to spend a full Saturday afternoon to correctly reset the derailer travel limits and align the front caliper if you do not take it to a local shop for a professional tune up.

Compared to a full-suspension mountain bike, a hardtail is better suited to several situations, such as riding to class, dirt jumping, riding on smoother trails, or just cruising around the neighborhood. Combining the perfect blend of hardtail performance with rugged utility, the Response Sport--which shares the same frame and several of the components of the pricier Response Comp--is equipped with an aluminum all-mountain hardtail Response trail frame with a strongbox top tube, a SR Suntour XCM suspension fork, eight-speed Rapidfire trigger shifters, Kenda Klaw XT tires, and a DB All-Mountain saddle. The Response Sport also offers several upgrades from the base-model Response, including a SR Suntour SCT crank set with replaceable chain rings, Tektro Novela 6-inch disc brakes, and Weinmann doublewall rims.
