(More customer reviews)For the uniformed... Raleigh & Diamondback bikes are basically the same bikes. Same company. This bike compares to a 2010 Raleigh Route 3.0 priced about $385 from a bike shop. Here comes the good & the bad.
The good: If you are even somewhat mechanically inclined, you can most likely assemble it yourself. The bad: An assembled bike does NOT mean a 100% perfectly working bike. You will need to know and/or figure out how to adjust the derailleurs & brakes cables. Plenty of good info via the Internet. All you need do is use Google.
The good: Save $85 by buying on-line & assembling the bike yourself. The bad: No dealer follow up service. Most bike shops offer at least one FREE follow up tune-up/check-up. Shift & brake cables do stretch over time...usually within the first month of good riding. Some bike shops offer one year of free follow up service. Mine offers free adjustments for LIFE! Is it worth the extra $85?
The good: Four different frame sizes to choose from. Not like a discount store that offers only one with that "One-size-fits-all" mentality. WRONG! It doesn't matter if you're 5' 2" tall or 6' 6" tall. There's a bike the right size for you. The bad: Know in advance what frame size you need EXACTLY. Example...I'm 5' 10" tall. That's not overly tall. One would think that would be a 17" medium frame. Wrong. Raleigh lists a 19" frame as medium...and they are right. A 17" frame would best fit someone shorter than 5' 10" - around 5' 8" tall.
The good: Contrary to the description, the rear cog (gears) are not Shimano 7-speed freewheel (13-28t). They are Shimano MegaRange, 7-speed: 14-34. That 34 tooth low gear is great for pulling hills. The bad: It's a freewheel & not a cassette hub. A freewheel hub simply screws on. A cassette has splines that slide into the hub and is held in place with a locking ring. This is the new standard that will take more use and abuse.
The good: An Avenir Plush Saddle (Black). Same saddle (seat) used on Raleigh Hybrid Bikes. There is no bad. Very comfy.
Bottom line: Nice bike for the casual cyclist. For the serious cyclist, invest a few bucks more and get one with a cassette hub vs. the freewheel hub. Still a LOT BETTER than anything found at Wal-Mart, K-Mart & the like. If taken care of properly, this bike will last a lifetime. I really hate to be the lowest rating here, but I fall into that "serious cyclist" category. I own two bikes, the Raleigh being my main ride. It has almost 1,300 miles on it in less than two years. Between the two bikes, I'm guessing well over 2,000 in the past two years. This bike comes close to my Raleigh is worth every penney.

Day 1 review is awesome! This is the lightest bike I ever owned, it is very stable and it rides as smooth as a lincoln town car. I swear, even if you have a good road bike to go out riding with your friends, this is a great second bike for enjoying local family fun time. I mostly chose the bike myself because it is a cross between a road bike & a mountain bike, so I can ride the streets in my neighborhood & cut through the parks with ease as well. Cruise around town in relaxed style with the Diamondback Wildwood Classic men's comfort bike. The Wildwood Classic offers many of the same comforts and features as the Wildwood Deluxe, but with a more comfortable price tag. The Wildwood Classic is equipped with a heat-treated aluminum frame with Laid Back Comfort (LBC) geometry, a 50mm comfort suspension fork, seven-speed twist shifters, and a DB comfort saddle with super-soft foam. About Diamondback's LBC Geometry During the development of LBC Geometry, Diamondback engineers were faced with the challenge of making the comfort bike more comfortable and easier to use without compromising its handling and maneuverability. They started by tilting the seat tube back. Way back. This allows the rider to be seated further behind the bottom bracket and in a lower position, which not only makes for a more stable and comfortable ride, but also allows for full leg extension to the pedals. At the same time, the design still keeps the rider seated low enough on the bike that he or she can quickly and easily plant both feet firmly on the ground. The result is happier knees and much easier mounting and dismounting.
Once the rider's ideal position was determined, the engineers recognized two places they could improve the handling of the bike by not changing anything at all. Whereas other companies have been tempted to lengthen the chainstays and tilt the head tube back, Diamondback engineers opted for another approach, leaving the length of the rear end alone to maintain superior shifting performance and stable handling. Then they designed a new comfort handlebar with more back sweep, helping bring the handle grips within reach. Because the angle and location of the head tube remains unchanged, Diamondback didn't compromise the performance of the bike.

Diamondback Vital Two Women's Sport Hybrid Bike (2011 Model, 700c Wheels) Review

(More customer reviews)Amazon offers this bike for around $250 less than my local bike shop. Since I've always had great results with Amazon, I purchased this from them rather than the brick and mortar store with the very friendly bike experts who are always willing to help me.
This bike is really excellent quality, especially for the price. The shifters, derailers, wheels, hubs and frame are all very nice quality. They are not the very best, but who except a professional rider or bike snob would pay those whacko prices. The only component on the bike that is not as good are the pedals, which are plastic and a little slick. I wouldn't want to chug up a hill wearing wet tennis shoes with these pedals.
I bought this bike as a gift for my buddy's birthday. However, once the lady of the house saw it and rode it down the street and back, It was decided she is getting this one, and my buddy is getting a different bike. I took this bike for a short ride myself and it handles beautifully. It is very comfortable and responsive. I've never used rapid fire shifters before, but got used to them in just a few minutes. The shifters and derailers shift very smoothly. All of our riding is recreational on trails and bike paths. So, the gearing of this bike; which is not designed to pull any stumps out of the ground, or pass any semis on the interstate; meets our needs perfectly. The reason she really likes this bike is the style of the frame which is much easier getting on and off than a men's style with a higher top bar. She can't kick quite as high as she did with the Rocketts 40 years ago.
I'd rate ths bike as five star if it weren't for the poor packaging. Although most of the frame had cardboard taped around the tubes to protect the paint, the wheels and seat with post were just placed loosley in the box along side the frame. When I opened the box, I found the rear wheel was jammed around the crank arm. This left some pretty deep gouges on the crank and really bent the rear wheel significantly out of true. Would it kill them to include a chunk of styrofoam or a tie-strap?
So, now I have to remove the tire and spend a couple of hours truing the wheel, or take it to the bike shop and spend $50 to get it done. If you're not handy with bikes, or can afford the extra cost, a local purchase may be a better alternative.

Been riding about 3 miles per day, 4 days per week, for about 6 months now and no problems at all. Bike is very comfortable. When you buy this bike, I had the option of the curved back handle bars or the straight ones. Bought the curved ones thinking they would be more comfortable, but had an awkward angle on my wrists. The straight bars are more comfortable.

Diamondback Serene Citi Classic Women's Sport Comfort Bike (2011 Model, 26-Inch Wheels) Review

* Beautiful design. The color is gorgeous in person. The light blue is overlaid with some pink decals of circles and whatnot that don't show too well in the sample photographs, but the overall design is stunning.
* Smooth ride. Thank you, suspension! I've taken this bike out on smooth road, cracked road, grass, dirt trail, pebble trail, and small-rock trail, and it has done decently.
* Solid brakes and tires.
* Lifetime warranty on the frame.
* Bicycling is so easy it almost feels like cheating! My first day out on the bike, I rode it for one hour, no problem. The 10-minute drive to the office only took me 16 minutes on the bike. Excellent!
THE CONS:
* My seat is cruddy and/or defective; it squeaks.
* Gear shifting is generally smooth, but there are a few settings where the chain/bike is unduly noisy. Perhaps I'm doing it wrong.
* Construction CAN be confusing out of the box. I recommend that those who haven't a clue what they are doing check out Diamondback's useful videos on bike assembly [...]. The bike comes with frame, chain, brakes, and back wheel assembled. One needs to put on the handlebars, put on the front tire, hook up the brakes (front and back), tweak the brakes, and put on the pedals.
* No kick stand, but I understand this is relatively common in shipped bicycles. It's very easy to buy and install one.
* Amazon for some reason lists the shipping weight as 25lb. Though I knew that figure was too good to be true, the actual shipping weight was somewhere around 60lb. Eyeboggle. The bike isn't light, but it's not so heavy that I can't haul it back up two flights of stairs after a long ride.
PARTING TIP:
* If you notice that your feet/pedals keep whacking the front wheel and/or the front wheel is unduly difficult to manage and turns at the slightest motion, you most likely have the front fork backwards. To save space, the front fork is backwards out-of-the-box.
